A one-to-one with Bruno Fernandes, no question time and Carrington conundrum
Tales from the mixed zone, Ten Hag's tunnel clue and why the training complex is no longer fit for purpose
Tales from the mixed zone
While Erik ten Hag was fielding probing questions at Wembley, this correspondent was in the mixed zone chatting to Andre Onana and then getting a one-on-one with Bruno Fernandes. Plenty of microphones and dictaphones were shoved in the direction of both players, with few actually asking any questions.
The Wembley mixed zone is a free-for-all but the embargo culture still exists as it is handy for follow-ups the next day. Some journalists, like Freddy Caldeira, were considerate and checked on an embargo time. The Hayters agency recorded the Onana chat and uploaded onto YouTube without having the courtesy to check.
Then there was the fan cammer filming during my chat with Fernandes. Bearing in mind the leader of this channel was (so I am told) wailing about something I had said on the MEN’s podcast earlier in the week, it was rather rich that their colleague was then syphoning off my work to upload onto social media without checking. They were politely asked to delete the clip.
